After Brady & Steve's party, I went to the viewing of Aunt Barbara that was held in Fruitland. It was nice to see my cousins and all the flowers were beautiful. I was able to get her slideshow done but not in the high resolution again but they had it playing in the cultural hall on a big screen and it looked okay. I feel so bad for all the kids, I just can't believe they have to bury to parents exactly three weeks apart.

Barbara Lou Morrison Schulthies passed away peacefully on October 19, 2020, exactly three weeks after the death of her sweetheart for fifty-one years, Vaughn Carlisle Schulthies. She has many gifts and talents and was known to different people as a farmer's wife, gardener, lover of the performing arts, passionate family history researcher, intimately attentive grandmother, bread baker (in her younger years), addiction recovery mentor, ever-learning, and eager student of whatever captures her attention, seamstress nad quilter, party organizer, Halloween enthusiast, patent listener, and counselor, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saint temple worker, Names and Numbers saleswoman, traveler, mom to eight children and grandmother to 35 1/2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
She was born in Vernal, Uintah County, Utah on January 21, 2051, the first of four children to Robert Burke Morrison and Laura Alice Millecam. Barbara and her siblings, Ranee Feltch, Rod Morrison, and Mary Gardner, had fond memories of their childhood. They enjoyed many fishing and camping trips lead by their father and their mother taught them to enjoy dress-ups, big hats, and entertaining. She was a ballerina and ballroom dancer and performed at many events with her dance partner. Besides dance, she had a passion for ballet, math, English, and was very out-going.
On August 29, 1969, Barbara married Vaughn Schulthies, whom she met while attending Brigham Young Unversity. They left school to start a dairy farming operation in Nyssa Oregon, a real transition from her "city" upbringing. Together they raised eight children: Juliene and Dale Robins (Utah), Becky and Mohammad Baraket (New Jersey), Wade and Angela Schulthies (Idaho), Stoney Schulthies (Oregon), Weston and Lori Schulthies (Oregon), Tara and Tommy Rushton (Oregon), Sheree Schulthies (Oregon), Logan and Emily Schulthies (Oregon). Later she sold advertising in the Names and Numbers local phonebook company; volunteered as an addiction recovery mentor in the Snake River Correctional Institute and as a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saint temple worker in Boise and Meridian Temples; and delighted in attending events in her grandchildren's lives. She loved to participate in and attend any cultural production she could; created a garden oasis for family gatherings in her yard; and was always studying scriptures or reading up on atopic and sharing what she learned. In January, she and Vaughn celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their children and grandchildren in Hawaii.
Blessed with a witty sense of humor, a love of learning, and a desire to serve, Barbara left a rich legacy in the children, grandchildren, and larger community she nurtured.
There will be a viewing on Sunday, October 25, 2020, from 4-7pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Fruitland, Idaho, 325 N Pennsylvania Ave, Fruitland, ID 83619.
A funeral service for Barbara will be held for immediate family members on Monday, October 26, 2020, at 11:22 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Owyhee Ward Building in Nyssa, Oregon.

Because the family got so much flack for the Covid outbreak after Uncle Vaughn's funeral, they really tried hard to keep the numbers under 50. We were planning to watch the funeral together at mom and dad's house by zoom but then Weston called us the morning of the funeral and said he felt prompted that we should be there too. Mom called their bishop to make sure it would be okay and he said he felt the same. He said as he was watching the slideshow he saw so many pictures of both of our families together that he really felt then that we should be included. So Mom, Dad, Reid, Brielle, Rosie, Scott and I all slipped in and sat on the back row with plans to leave right after the funeral. The funeral was beautiful and everyone did a wonderful job. As we were getting ready to leave Bishop Johnston stopped us and said we could go over to the graveside too because their numbers were less than they thought. Mom and Dad didn't stay because Dad was feeling dizzy but the rest of us went over.
It was pretty special that all the girls had on all her mother's tea hats and then placed them on the casket. They also spent some time listening to her favorite song called Bring Him Home from the musical Les Miserables. They also handed out little candy bars because that was Aunt Barbara's favorite. They decided we should eat the chocolate and leave her the candy bar wrappers since they would always find wrappers all over the house when she would get up in the middle of the night to find a snack. I was so happy we were able to be with them.

It was so nice of Reid and Brielle to travel all the way back for the viewing and funeral. He plans to stay another week to help dad with the corn harvest.
We went to Vaughn and Barbara's house for the luncheon. It was fun to reminisce and hang out without worrying about wearing a mask and getting in trouble for getting together.
The cattle drive in provided all the barbequed meat and sides. The relief society provided salad and desserts.
