We are so proud of Kacie doing cross country this year. It hasn't been easy for her, but we are so glad that she is willing to try. August 26th was her first time trial of 1.3 miles. It was 100 degrees and I was a little scared she wasn't going to make it, but she finished it (15.31 min) which is what counted. After the race she said her kidney was hurting. The following Sunday we had to take her to the doctor for a UTI and the doc said she was showing signs of dehydration so the next day I called her kidney doctor, Dr. Jenkins, and he wasn't too concerned about her. He just said to make sure she keeps drinking lots of water during the day and that she was probably just mistaking a side ache as her kidney pain. He really wanted to encourage her to keep running because it will be so good for her. That was a relief.
Her first official race was in New Plymouth on September 1st (our 22nd Anniversary). She ran a 3000 meter which is 1.9 miles. We were both so happy that she wasn't last, in fact there were six behind her. She did it in 21.02 min. Gerald and Wanda came to cheer her on which was really nice. Kacie said it was fun and not as long as she thought it was going to be. Hopefully each time she can gain more and more confidence that she can do it. I keep telling her what counts is that she improves each time and that she finishes the race. Kacie's team, The Nyssa Middle School girls got 1st place!!!
