February 7th Kacie stayed home from school with a bad headache and then Thursday the 9th she still hadn't got any relief so I took her to Dr. Dunbransky. She gave her an IV because she was so dehydrated and an antibiotic thinking she might have a sinus infection.
Friday she was still hurting so we took her to the ER because Dunbransky was out of town. They gave her some pain meds that finally helped and they did an MRI. The ER doctor told us there were no tumors and her sinuses were fine, but that the tonsils in the brain were enlarged and that we needed to see a Neurosurgeon. We had never even heard of tonsils in the brain. Dunbransky's office was having trouble getting her into a neurosurgeon so I texted Kacie's kidney doctor and he said he would get the images and have a neurosurgeon see them out of Portland. After a couple of days of stressing over Kacie possibly having to have surgery on her head the surgeon said they were not that bad and that she wouldn't need surgery, but that she would need to see a neurologist to see what he could do to help. They were then thinking she was having bad migraines. Boy were we all relieved but still frustrated that nothing seemed to be helping her headaches. They tried different pain meds that didn't seem to help much then on the 15th I took her to another provider in Dunbransky's office that gave Kacie a shot in the butt and was suggesting that her headaches could be caused by food that she eats or her birth control pill. We both felt seeing her was a waste of time. The shot helped a little but we found out that she shouldn't have them because of her kidney. We finally got an appointment with a neurologist but it's not until March 15th. On the 20th Kacie was able to see Dunbransky again and she made some changes with her medicine. She stopped the Topamax that she had her try but didn't help and then put her on a schedule to discontinue her Prozac and added Amitriptyline which is a nerve pain and antidepressant.
Stacie and Taylor brought these beautiful flowers to Kacie on Feb 16th.
That was sure nice of them.
Sunday the 26th Kacie was able to go to church and posted this picture and said...It feels good to feel good. We love it when she has a good day and no headaches.
