Dee Garner's Funeral

Went to Dee Garner's Funeral today.  I have to be honest, I'm kinda sick of all these Funerals.  Too many wonderful people leaving us and Dee was such a happy guy!  He always made you feel so good and was so good at drawing in people just like his wife Jeannetta! I love her too!
Loved getting to see these two!
Tami and Lance did a wonderful job singing together...so beautiful!
Love all the patriotism shown.  Dee was a World War II veteran and I love hearing those war stories.

So tender and touching!
Dee will be greatly missed!
Dee Jesse Garner, 87, of Nyssa, Oregon, died peacefully at home with his family on Thursday, April 10, 2014. Dee was born July 26, 1926, first and only son and second of five children of Dewey LeGrande and Thelma Stoker Garner, in Roy, Utah. Dad was a seven-month baby and was brought home in a shoe box and kept warm in the oven. The doctor said he would either live or die, and Boy, did he live! He graduated from Weber High School class of 1944, and promptly enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and served as a gunner in the South Pacific Theater of WWII. (His parents had to sign for him to enlist.) He fought in several significant battles, and was honorably discharged June 12, 1946. During his service, his parents moved to Emmett, Idaho, and when he returned to the family farm, he met and married Jeannetta Harrison who lived next door. From the moment he saw her, he knew he was going to make her his wife. They were married June 11, 1948 in Emmett, and Dee and his father operated a dairy. Their first home consisted of “two rooms and a path.” Their first son, Rodger Dee, was born October 26, 1950 in Ontario, Oregon while they still lived in Emmett. Dee went to work for his uncle Dick Stoker in construction and participated in the building of the Nyssa Hospital, where the rest of his children were born. Daniel was born January 13, 1954, Julie (Bennett) January 6, 1959, and Kelly was born July 12, 1960. Dee and Jeannetta bought an 80-acre farm outside of Nyssa, Oregon on Cow Hollow Road on March 11, 1953 on Jeannetta’s birthday, where they lived until his passing. The family was sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on September 14, 1969. Dee went to work for Amalgamated Sugar Company in 1960 as a sweeper, and worked at the sugar factory for 32 years and retired having held many leadership positions including assistant superintendent. He was an officer for the American Federation of Grain Millers and a strong union advocate. He was active in civic affairs including the Nyssa School Board, the PTA, and an active member of the Owyhee Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. One of his favorite experiences was his service as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 438. Several young men became Eagle Scouts under his leadership, including two of his sons. After retirement, Dee and Jeannetta served an 18-month LDS mission at the Atlanta, Georgia temple. They made some lifelong friends there and had many spiritual experiences. Dee is survived by his wife Jeannetta of 65 years, his children, Rodger and Jay Leano of Tacoma, Washington, Dan and Peggy Ross of Tigard, Oregon, Julie and Norman Bennett of Nyssa, Oregon, Kelly and Cindy Garner of Pocatello, Idaho, two special daughters-in-law Wendy Garner of Tualatin, Oregon and Beth Garner of Chubbuck, Idaho; 13 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren; as well as his sister Elva Ashley of Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 of his sisters, Geneive Cowan, LeOra McCrary, and Elaine Olsen, and one great grandson, Braden Wheeler. Dad was the patriarch not only of our family but to many nieces and nephews. Viewing will be from 3:00 to 5:00 PM on Sunday, April 13 at the Nyssa Lienkaemper Chapel, 207 Ehrgood Avenue, Nyssa, Oregon 97913. The service will be held at the Owyhee Ward LDS Chapel, 848 Owyhee Avenue, Nyssa, Oregon 97913 at 11:00 AM, with family visitation before the service at 10:00 AM.
