Accidents Happen...

Cole and Kacie came home for the weekend so Cole and Scott could shoot ground squirrels with Steve down in Jordan Valley.  They had too much fun the last weekend so wanted to go again.  They had a great time in the morning shooting then after they had lunch they went to get their guns out of the pickup.  As one of the guns was coming out of the case it went off and Scott was hit with shrapnel.  The bullet went through the gun case, through the backseat and hit the seat frame which sent tons of metal into Scott's legs.  After it happened Steve went up the hill to try to get service and called Ron.  Ron called 911 to get an ambulance or life-flight on board just in case.  When Ron called me all I knew was the Scott had been shot in the leg and that he might have to be life-flighted.  I was just coming home with Kacie and Brady so we turned around and went back to Gerald and Wanda's.  Once Scott knew that he wasn't bleeding heavily and it was just superficial he thought he could just drive.  The ranchers there also offered to fly him to town but he thought he would be fine.  He was so lucky.   Cole drove him to the hospital in Nampa near Costco.  No one was able to go in the hospital with him because of Covid-19.  They X-Rayed him and the doctor said he was full of fine metal but they don't like to remove it because gun wounds are so dirty.  However, he could feel part of the bullet under the larger hole so the doctor said he would try to remove it because it was bothering him.  Scott said he couldn't watch him pull on his skin as he was trying to cut it out.  We were all pretty worried until we got word that he wouldn't have to have surgery.  He had to spend about four hours there by himself before we picked him up around 6:30pm.

Where the bullet came out and hit the metal seat frame.

About four days later is when the bruising was the worst.
The doctor told him to keep the wounds cleaned, covered, and moist.  They have to heal from the inside out.  The big hole oozed for over a month.   Not everyone can say they have been shot let alone twice.  He definitely has angels watching over him.  It took about six weeks before the big wound finally stopped oozing and bleeding.
